Cheryl reflects on overcoming anxiety, self-doubt, and heartbreak, while honouring Liam Payne’s support and tragic passing at 31.

Cheryl, the former Girls Aloud star, has candidly reflected on her struggles with anxiety and self-esteem, sharing how her ex-partner, Liam Payne, supported her during her darkest times. The pair, who co-parent their son Bear, had remained close despite their 2018 split. Tragically, Liam passed away last month at just 31.

Speaking to Radio 1’s Life Hacks, Cheryl revealed the harsh self-criticism she faced during her time in the spotlight. “I would talk to myself so nastily… No one could make me feel worse about myself than I did,” she admitted. Behind her public smile, Cheryl often felt like she was “dying inside,” a feeling that worsened after Bear’s birth in 2017. Determined to provide a stable environment for her son, Cheryl sought therapy and embraced cognitive behavioural techniques to overcome years of self-doubt.

Her romantic past, including two failed marriages, left Cheryl battling self-worth issues. Yet, she praised Liam as the only partner who had remained faithful, highlighting his unwavering role as both a partner and a father.

In the wake of Liam’s passing, Cheryl described him as “a dear friend” and “a father to our son,” vowing to help Bear navigate life without his dad.
