Christian Horner has been dismissed from Red Bull Racing after 19 years as team principal, marking a historic shift in Formula 1.

Christian Horner has officially been removed from his position as Team Principal of Red Bull Racing, the team confirmed in a statement released on Tuesday. The news signals the end of an era for the longest-serving leader in recent Formula 1 history, who took on the role in 2005 and played a key role in the team’s rise to the top tier of motorsport.

At 51, Horner was not only a pivotal figure in the F1 paddock but also a celebrity away from the track, known for his marriage to former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell. Under his leadership, Red Bull secured multiple world championships with drivers such as Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen, cementing its status as one of the most successful teams of the modern era.

“Red Bull has relieved Christian Horner of his operational duties with immediate effect and appointed Laurent Mekies as CEO of Red Bull Racing. We would like to thank Christian Horner for his outstanding work over the past 20 years. Thanks to his tireless dedication, experience, knowledge, and innovative thinking, he has been instrumental in establishing Red Bull Racing as one of the most successful and compelling teams in Formula 1,” read the official statement.

“Thank you for everything, Christian – you will always be an important part of our team’s history,” it added. The dismissal comes a year after Horner faced allegations of inappropriate conduct involving a team member – claims he denied and was ultimately cleared of following an internal investigation. However, the details of the case were never made public.
