Colin Farrell leads Ballad of a Small Player, a thriller about gambling and redemption, arriving on Netflix this October.

Netflix has unveiled the first images of Colin Farrell in ‘Ballad of a Small Player‘, a drama brimming with mystery and tension that promises to become one of the major autumn releases. Directed by BAFTA winner Edward Berger, the film adapts Lawrence Osborne’s novel of the same name and tells a story of high-stakes gambling, redemption, and second chances, set against the backdrop of Macau.

Farrell plays a compulsive gambler who, haunted by his past and mounting debts, meets a mysterious woman who may offer him a path to salvation. The cast also includes Fala Chen, Deanie Ip, Alex Jennings, and the iconic Tilda Swinton.

The screenplay is by Rowan Joffe, known for his work in contemporary film noir, and the release will be staggered: it will premiere in select cinemas on 15 October and be available globally on Netflix from 29 October.

With a plot that blends risk, introspection, and unexpected connections, Ballad of a Small Player is shaping up to be one of Farrell’s most intense performances in recent years.
