In an interview with Bustle, Dakota Johnson reveals that following the backlash from “Madame Web,” she’s hesitant to get involved in similar projects.
During a recent interview with Bustle, actress Dakota Johnson addressed the negative criticism surrounding the film “Madame Web,” revealing that she’s unlikely to partake in similar projects in the future. The star expressed her lack of surprise at the unfavorable reaction the movie has garnered and pointed out the complications of decisions made by committees in major productions.
“Art doesn’t thrive when it’s created by committees,” stated Johnson, emphasizing the importance of filmmakers’ creativity and vision along with their team. In her words, “movies are the result of collaboration between a filmmaker and a team of artists around them. You can’t make art based on numbers and algorithms.”
The actress underscored the intelligence of the audience, arguing that they can always discern authenticity despite the widespread belief among industry executives. Johnson admitted that her involvement in “Madame Web” was a unique experience, being her first foray into such projects, but indicated that it doesn’t fit into her world and she’s now aware of that.
“Sometimes in this industry, you sign on to something, and it’s one thing, and while you’re doing it, it becomes something completely different, and you wonder, what’s going on?” shared Johnson. Despite the criticism, the actress considers it a valuable lesson and understands the dynamics of the industry, although she admitted that it’s not pleasant to be part of something heavily criticized.
