David Corenswet opens up about the words of encouragement he received from Henry Cavill and Tyler Hoechlin before becoming Superman.

The cape has changed hands, but the legacy remains. David Corenswet, the newly appointed Superman, is ready to soar—but not without a few words of encouragement from the actors who came before him. In a recent interview with Heart, he opened up about his exchanges with Henry Cavill and Tyler Hoechlin, two of the most recent men to wear the red cape.

“Interestingly, both of them said in their own way, ‘I’m not going to try and give you any tips’,” Corenswet shared. “And I think that’s a very Superman thing to do. He’s not someone who dictates or tells people how they should be.”

Henry Cavill, who played the superhero in ‘Man of Steel’ (2013), ‘Batman vs. Superman’ (2016), ‘Justice League’ (2017), and made a brief appearance in ‘Black Adam’ (2022), was once expected to return. However, it was confirmed in 2022 that he would no longer continue in the role. Meanwhile, Tyler Hoechlin portrayed the character in ‘Superman & Lois’ on The CW.

“They both simply encouraged me and told me to have fun with it,” Corenswet added. “It was a lovely exchange, and I’m looking forward to the day we can all be in the same room together.”

With the torch now passed, Corenswet carries not just the legacy, but also the quiet reassurance of those who flew before him.
