DC Studios and HBO Max are developing ‘DC Crime’, a fictional true crime series centred on Gorilla Grodd and presented by Jimmy Olsen.
DC Studios and HBO Max have confirmed the development of ‘DC Crime’, a fictional true crime show set within the DC Universe. The project, blending documentary style with superhero storytelling, will be hosted by Jimmy Olsen — played by Skyler Gisondo, the same actor who portrays the character in the recent Superman film.
According to Variety, the first season will focus on Gorilla Grodd, one of The Flash’s most iconic villains. This hyper-intelligent gorilla, gifted with telepathic and mind-control abilities, gained his powers after an alien ship crash in Africa, becoming a figure feared even among metahumans.
The series will be written and directed by Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault, the creative duo behind ‘American Vandal’, who will also serve as showrunners and executive producers. Joining them as executive producers are James Gunn and Peter Safran, co-heads of DC Studios, further cementing the integration of this new format within the studio’s evolving cinematic universe.
From the television division, Galen Vaisman will oversee the project on behalf of Warner Bros. Television, strengthening the connection between the film and TV productions of the new DC Universe.
Balancing satire, criminal investigation, and superhero mythology, ‘DC Crime’ aims to expand both the tone and narrative scope of the DC Universe. With no official release date yet, the series promises to explore the darker and more media-driven side of its villains — an approach as original as it is daring.
