The Spanish multinational Desigual has just launched its first 100% circular collection, entirely made from recycled denim fabric.

This proposal, brought to the market under the name “The Circular Denim Project”, has been developed collaboratively with Fundació el Maresme and the companies Belda Llorens and Textil Santanderina. Desigual aims to have over 70% of its collection pieces made from environmentally friendly fibers or production processes by the end of 2023.

Furthermore, Desigual has documented the entire process in detail, creating a series of videos showcasing the different stages and key processes used in the collection’s production.

“The challenges of the textile industry can be tackled through creativity and collaboration with trusted partners committed to sustainability and the development of formulas to implement circular economy in the fashion sector,” says Clara Delmuns, Product Director at Desigual. She adds, “The Circular Denim collection is a good proof of this. With this project, we take a step forward in our commitment to creating fashion that is more respectful of the environment, both socially and environmentally, promoting a second life for fabrics.”

The collection consists of four denim garments, all made from recycled denim fibers, and is now available in physical stores and online. “The Circular Denim Project” includes a blazer made from recycled denim fibers, a midi skirt, wide-leg jeans, and a short dress with cut-outs, long and wide sleeves, and a dual-tone design with stripes of a darker blue denim on the sides combined with a lighter blue central body.

The design of the pieces has also been carried out based on the principles of circular design, embracing new approaches to fashion design that address not only the manufacturing stages of the garments but also aspects related to their disassembly, facilitating the recycling of the garment at the end of its useful life.
