Paramount+ is gearing up for a legal drama starring Nicole Kidman and Elle Fanning that could rival the cultural phenomenon of ‘Suits’.
After the global success of ‘Suits’ — the series that catapulted Meghan Markle to fame and, according to rumours, first caught Prince Harry’s attention — a new legal drama is poised to captivate audiences worldwide: ‘Discretion’, an ambitious project that brings together two of Hollywood’s most powerful names, Nicole Kidman and Elle Fanning.
Both actresses will not only star in the series but also serve as executive producers, reinforcing their creative commitment to the production. The show was acquired by Paramount+ after a fierce bidding war between seven major platforms, sparked by A24, the studio behind its development.
Based on an unpublished short story by New York Times bestselling author Chandler Baker, ‘Discretion’ is set in a competitive Dallas law firm. There, Sharon (played by Kidman) is an established partner, while Lenny (Fanning) joins as a summer associate. When Lenny uncovers a web of non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) concealing a dark truth — including one she herself has signed — a tense showdown begins, threatening their mentor–protégé relationship. “Who can keep secrets, and at what cost?” asks the official logline.
Baker, who worked as a corporate lawyer before turning to writing, revealed that the script came together in just two days, inspired by her real-life experience negotiating hundreds of NDAs. “My husband always encourages me to take time to write, and this time I did. In one night, ‘Discretion’ was born,” she shared on Instagram.
The project marks another collaboration between Kidman and Fanning, who previously worked together on Sofia Coppola’s ‘The Beguiled’, ‘How to Talk to Girls at Parties’ and the upcoming Apple TV+ series ‘Margo’s Got Money Problems’, also produced by A24 and written by David E. Kelley.
With its feminist perspective, credible legal backdrop and two leading actresses at the height of their powers, ‘Discretion’ is shaping up to be one of the most compelling releases of the season. Could this be the true successor to ‘Suits’? All signs point to yes — with even more bite.
