Doja Cat is once again at the center of controversy due to comments she made to her fans on Twitter and Threads, leading her to lose almost 250,000 Instagram followers in just one day.
The artist started by responding to posts from fans who called themselves “kittenz,” a fandom name she had coined many years ago.
“My fans don’t call themselves that. If you call yourself ‘kitten’ or ‘kittenz,’ it means you should put down the phone, get a job, and help your parents with the house,” she shared.
In response, a fan account named “thekittenzweb” asked, “What should I change my name to if you don’t like the term ‘kitten’?” to which Doja replied, “Just delete the entire account and reflect on everything, it’s never too late.” To another user, she replied, “Putting my real name in your username is creepy as hell.”
While individually some responses may not seem too harsh, these recent comments add to a long list of offensive tweets towards fans over the last month, leading many followers to unfollow Doja Cat on social media altogether.
While some fans believe she’s simply speaking the truth (and admire that she could be kinder about it), others suggest her comments are unfair, as Doja’s fan base is the reason for her current success.
Since the controversies surfaced, Doja’s recent comments have been deleted, but as we all know, screenshots last forever.
