Dorin Hirvi, the talented TikToker and singer, opens the doors to her creative world. From her artistic process, where she connects emotions with colors, to her upcoming musical work, Hirvi shares her journey of self-discovery and overcoming challenges.

Dorin has transformed her love for music into a vibrant career after overcoming the insecurity that once kept her voice silent. “My love for singing has been a lifelong companion,” she explains. However, there was a time when insecurity prevented her from sharing her voice. During the COVID pandemic, she made a pact with herself: to leave fear behind and fully immerse herself in the world of music. This commitment to her dream has turned what once seemed an unattainable fantasy into a dynamic and exciting reality.

Dorin’s musical journey is inspired by a variety of artists she deeply admires. Although none directly influence her style, each one uniquely inspires her. “I’m a pop girl at heart, with a passion for ballads and deeply emotional music,” she says. Her creative process is like an emotional canvas, where her feelings paint the music she creates, ranging from bright tones to melancholic hues. “My creative palette can shift from vibrant pink one day to deep, sorrowful blue the next. It’s this emotional spectrum that drives me creatively, with my personal feelings painting the canvas of my music.”

A unique aspect of her artistic process is the relationship between colours and emotions. Although she’s unsure if she has synaesthesia, Dorin translates her feelings into specific colours that symbolise different emotions. “There’s a fascinating condition called synaesthesia that some artists experience, where they ‘see’ songs and melodies in colour. I’ve always loved translating my feelings into colours. While I’m not sure if I have synaesthesia, my creative process often involves connecting my lyrics with specific colours, which symbolise different emotions for me,” she explains. This connection guides the direction of her music videos and her overall artistic style.

Regarding her upcoming album, Dorin describes it as a deep dive into her personal identity, moving away from the fictional narratives of previous works. “This album is a journey of self-discovery, revealing raw and honest emotions,” she says. Although the album is still in progress, it’s “bathed in shades of blue.” “It’s a therapeutic process for me, and I hope listeners can find parts of themselves in the songs, releasing trapped emotions and feeling a deep connection.”

Dorin’s work isn’t limited to the album; she’s constantly creating new music and preparing surprises for her followers. “We’re always writing, creating, and working on new music. There are many surprises on the way, so stay tuned!” she says.

In moments of creative block, Dorin turns to meditation and reflecting on past experiences to find inspiration. “When I feel stuck, I like to meditate on a moment I want to inspire me. I think about past experiences and try to recall the feelings I had. This helps me get into the zone and write what’s on my mind. But if I’m really unmotivated, sometimes it’s a sign to give myself a break and do something else that day,” she says.

Social platforms like TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram have played a crucial role in her career, turning her fear and insecurity into an opportunity to connect with a global audience. “Social media has been an interesting journey, transforming my fear and insecurity into a space for creativity and connection,” she explains. Although negative comments can be discouraging, Dorin has learned not to take them personally. “I received a message on Instagram from someone saying my songs ‘suck and are tasteless’. For a few seconds, I took it to heart. But then, I decided to respond: ‘Are you okay?’ He replied saying he wasn’t actually having a great time and was feeling a bit down. We started talking, and I shared my own struggles, encouraging him to surround himself with people who care about him and to stay hopeful and positive.” Dorin reflects on the importance of empathy and love, even when faced with criticism. “Perhaps the moral of all this is to judge less and spread more love.”

Fashion and visual style are also fundamental to Dorin’s career. “I love fashion because it gives me another way to express myself and my mood. It shapes my day and my creativity,” she says. From a cosy look for a writing session to glamorous outfits for a music video, each wardrobe choice is carefully designed to capture the essence of the song. “When I think about a music video, I consider what the song symbolises and how the clothes convey the necessary energy. I get inspired, maybe browse Pinterest, make a mood board, and create something unique.”

Outside of music, Dorin finds joy in drawing and painting, as well as in practising sports and spending time in nature. “I love drawing and painting and hanging my silly creations around the house. Sport and exercise boost my productivity and creativity. Being in nature is key to my happiness and connection. If I combine a nature walk with some painting at the end, I feel invincible,” she confesses.

For young artists looking to start a career in music, Dorin offers valuable advice: “Be clear about who you are and what drives you. Put genuine intention into every action and don’t expect every day to be sunny. If you have a goal, work hard for it and embrace the journey, no matter how challenging it may be. A crucial lesson I’ve learned is the importance of self-love. When I started to love myself and believe in myself, things began to fall into place. Be grateful for what you have and know that anything is possible for you.”
