Duran Lantink has been appointed Creative Director of Jean Paul Gaultier, signalling the bold rebirth of an iconic maison.

The French fashion house Jean Paul Gaultier is entering a new era: Dutch designer Duran Lantink has been named Creative Director of all its lines, including ready-to-wear and Haute Couture. The announcement marks the end of the guest designer era and the brand’s return to the prêt-à-porter calendar, from which it has been absent since 2014.

Known for his provocative approach and commitment to sustainability, Lantink has built a reputation on reinventing the existing. His work has been celebrated for its conceptual boldness and for incorporating cultural narratives through a radical aesthetic. Gaultier, in a statement, described him as “the new enfant terrible of fashion”, recognising in him a fresh and disruptive energy.

Lantink’s ready-to-wear debut is scheduled for September in Paris, while his first Haute Couture collection will be unveiled in January 2026. A recipient of prestigious awards such as the Karl Lagerfeld Prize and the Woolmark Prize, his rise has been meteoric.

For the house, this decision represents a commitment to a freer, more contemporary and cross-disciplinary vision. For Lantink, it is, in his words, “an honour to take the place of a genius who opened the doors for us to be who we are.”
