The acclaimed HBO drama starring Zendaya officially comes to an end, closing one of television’s most talked-about and culturally defining series.

After years of speculation, rumours and uncertainty, Euphoria has officially reached the end of the road. HBO and creator Sam Levinson have confirmed that the acclaimed drama will not return for a fourth season, making season three the definitive conclusion to one of the most influential and controversial television series of the past decade.

Led by Zendaya alongside a cast including Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, Alexa Demie, Maude Apatow and Colman Domingo, the series has become a cultural phenomenon since its debut, shaping conversations around youth identity, addiction, desire, trauma and modern relationships while redefining the aesthetics of prestige television.

Although the confirmation has now arrived officially, the news will come as little surprise to many fans. For years, speculation surrounding the show’s future intensified due to long production gaps, increasingly ambitious storytelling and repeated comments from Sam Levinson, who frequently hinted that each season was written with a sense of finality.

Speaking on The New York Times Popcast podcast with hosts Joe Coscarelli and Jon Caramanica, Levinson admitted that uncertainty had always shaped his creative process. “I’ve written every season like it’s the last season, because I was never sure if they were going to pick it up again,” he explained.

The filmmaker also left a small door open to future possibilities, while making clear that, for now, the story feels complete. “If inspiration strikes and I have an idea, then I’ll talk to HBO. If it makes sense, it makes sense,” he shared, before acknowledging the enormous emotional and technical investment required to produce the series.
