Eva Longoria Criticizes the Lack of Gender Equity in Hollywood, Highlighting That the Industry Is Not as Progressive as It Seems

Eva Longoria, known for her role as Gabby Solis on ‘Desperate Housewives,’ has pointed out that Hollywood is not a progressive industry and that there is no gender equity between men and women. In an interview with Grazia UK, Longoria stated that the liberal and progressive perception of the entertainment industry does not reflect reality.

“It would be great to have gender equity in all positions, but we simply don’t have it,” Longoria commented. “We have fewer female directors and fewer Latinos in front of the camera compared to a few years ago. So, in reality, we are moving in the wrong direction, even though the perception is that we are making progress.”

This year, Longoria made her directorial debut with the film ‘Flamin’ Hot,’ which tells the story of Richard Montañez, the creator of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. She also co-founded Hyphenate Media Group, a new content company. However, the actress emphasizes that there is still much to be done for women in Hollywood to achieve equality with men.

“Women still don’t have the same opportunities as our male counterparts. What we do in the industry matters; it can change culture, and when you change culture, you change politics and perceptions. You can change a lot with storytelling,” added Longoria.

Currently, Longoria is promoting her new Apple TV+ series, ‘Land of Women,’ which premieres on June 26. The series stars Carmen Maura, Santiago Cabrera, and Gloria Muñoz and follows a woman who must flee to Spain with her mother and daughter after her husband’s disappearance due to financial problems.
