Florence Pugh is talking about her decision to shave her hair.
The 27-year-old “Oppenheimer” actress surprised her fans when she debuted her new buzzcut hairstyle at the 2023 Met Gala in May.
In a new interview, Florence revealed the powerful meaning behind the haircut.
“I purposely chose to look like that,” shared Florence with Radio Times, according to The Daily Mail. “I wanted vanity out of the picture. Hollywood is very glamorous, especially for women, and it’s hard for the audience to see beyond that. Whenever I don’t need to be glamorous or wear a full face of makeup, I fight to keep it that way.”
“It helps the audience,” continued Florence. “Vanity is gone. The only thing they can see then is your real face. Even at the beginning of my career, I was always fighting to control my image.”
She added, “It helps me when I’m wearing less makeup because then I’m less of a sparkly thing on screen. I feel like I’m allowed to make ugly faces, which is more acceptable.”
