Gal Gadot is sharing more details about her upcoming film about Cleopatra.
The 38-year-old actress recently spoke with Vogue Hong Kong, where she discussed her knowledge of the Egyptian queen and how the film will tell her story.
Gal told the publication that her film will change the narrative surrounding Cleopatra.
“Israel borders Egypt, and I grew up with so many stories about Cleopatra, and she’s like a household name,” she shared. “You know, if Wonder Woman is the strong and imaginary female leader, Cleopatra is actually the real one.”
She went on to say that it’s “a perfect example of a story that I wanted to tell because I started reading different books about Cleopatra, and I was like, ‘Wow, that’s fascinating.’ Everything I saw about Cleopatra in movies was that she was a seductive woman who had an affair with Julius Caesar and Mark Antony. But the truth is, there’s so much more to her.”
“This woman was so ahead of her time,” Gal added. “Egypt and what Egypt was back then, it was still futuristic to where we are today.”
Gal admitted she “can’t say much” about everything in the film, however, “for me, I’m so passionate about telling her story and doing justice to this character and her legacy and celebrating her and her legacy.”
“We have a beautiful script, and I can’t wait to share this story with the world and change the narrative of Cleopatra just being a seductress,” she added.
