As we all prepare for the highly anticipated release of Barbie, more revelations from the production team and cast continue to emerge.
The latest comes from Greta Gerwig herself. The actress, screenwriter, and director recently revealed that both Saoirse Ronan and Timothée Chalamet could have had cameos in the pink-themed film.
In a conversation with CinemaBlend, Gerwig shared about Ronan’s potential appearance in the movie: “Well, it was always going to have to be something smaller because she was producing at that time, and I’m so proud of her for that. And, of course, she’s brilliant. But it was going to be a special cameo. I was also going to have a special cameo with Timmy. Neither of them could do it, and I was so upset. But I love them both. But it felt like doing something without my kids. I mean, I’m not their mother, but in some way, I feel like their mother.”
In September, Ronan confirmed to People that she had tried to film a cameo for the upcoming Barbie movie but couldn’t do it because she was shooting The Outrun at the same time Gerwig was filming Barbie. “I was meant to do a cameo because I live in London, and they were [shooting] there. There was a whole character that I was going to play, another Barbie. I felt devastated that I couldn’t do it.”
It seems Gerwig had plans to bring Ronan into the Barbie universe and possibly reunite her with Chalamet for the film.
