Hudson Williams joins The Altruists, Netflix’s ambitious limited series charting the rise and collapse of FTX alongside Julia Garner and Anthony Boyle.
Hudson Williams continues to cement his rise on the international television scene. After reaching a new level of popularity thanks to Heated Rivalry, the Canadian actor is joining the cast of The Altruists, the highly anticipated Netflix limited series bringing one of the biggest financial scandals associated with the cryptocurrency world to the screen: the spectacular rise and subsequent collapse of FTX.
The production will consist of eight episodes and is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on 19 November. Williams will appear in the recurring role of Duncan Rheingans-Yoo, joining an extensive cast led by Julia Garner and Anthony Boyle.
At the centre of the story will be Caroline Ellison and Sam Bankman-Fried, two key figures in the FTX case. Garner will portray Ellison, while Boyle takes on the role of Bankman-Fried, founder of the cryptocurrency exchange that became enormously influential within the sector before suffering a dramatic collapse that sent shockwaves through financial markets.
The Altruists will follow these young and ambitious figures during a period when they set out to transform the global financial system. However, that vision would ultimately collide with a very different reality when allegations involving approximately $8 billion changed the course of the company and the lives of those surrounding it forever.
The relationship between Caroline Ellison and Sam Bankman-Fried will serve as one of the series’ main dramatic forces. The drama will explore not only the business decisions surrounding FTX, but also the enormous financial and personal pressures experienced by a group of young people who achieved an extraordinary level of power while many of them were still only in their twenties.
Alongside Hudson Williams, the cast features a number of notable names. Alex Lawther will play Sam Trabucco, Matt Rife takes on the role of Ryan Salame, Madison Hu portrays Constance Wang, Karan Soni plays Nishad Singh and Eugene Young appears as Gary Wang. Naomi Okada will also feature as Claire Watanabe.
The recurring cast also includes Jennifer Grey, Terry Chen, Paul Reiser, Robin Weigert, Maddie Hasson, William Mapother and Marianna Phung, strengthening an ensemble production designed to explore the different personalities and relationships surrounding the story.
For Hudson Williams, joining The Altruists comes at a particularly significant point in his career. The actor considerably expanded his international profile through Heated Rivalry, in which he plays professional hockey player Shane Hollander opposite Connor Storrie.
Based on Rachel Reid’s Game Changers novels, the series became Williams’ major international breakthrough and also earned him recognition within the Canadian television industry. His performance won him the 2026 Canadian Screen Award for Best Lead Performer in a Drama Series.
Heated Rivalry also took home the award for Best Drama Series and collected a total of 16 Canadian Screen Awards, cementing its status as a major television success and establishing its stars among the most closely watched emerging performers of the moment.
With The Altruists, Hudson Williams now steps into an entirely different world, moving from professional hockey and romantic drama to a story dominated by cryptocurrency, financial ambition, power and scandal. His arrival at Netflix marks another important step in a rapidly growing career and places him within one of the platform’s most intriguing new dramas of the year.
