With the text “Stop the Execution” and a noose-shaped collar, Iranian model Mahlagha Jaberi appeared at the Cannes Film Festival wearing a protest dress with a strong message against human rights violations in Iran.

“We wanted to make a fashion statement to match the glamour of Cannes, but more importantly, to show the media the wrongful executions happening to people in Iran. Unfortunately, political statements are not allowed at the festival, and the security staff prohibited me from showing the back of the dress, but the message of the ‘noose’ was understood,” Jaberi expressed on her Instagram account.

The dress was created by designer Jila Saber and features a simple black pattern, but with a deep neckline and straps that hold the dress around the neck like a “noose.” Additionally, the dress had a removable train with the phrase “stop executions” which she didn’t wear on the red carpet, but it was visible in the rest of the photos.

Apart from that, the look was completed with small or almost imperceptible earrings, but no other accessories that could distract from the message of the dress.
