Issey Miyake and Atelier Oï present ‘TYPE-XIII’ in Milan, blending textiles and wire into innovative lamps that combine art, design, and functionality.
Issey Miyake is set to surprise at Milan Design Week with the ‘TYPE-XIII Atelier Oï’ exhibition, a collaboration with the Swiss design studio Atelier Oï and A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE. This innovative project blends textiles and wire to create unique lighting products, exploring new frontiers between art and functionality.
The exhibition will feature prototypes that reflect the combination of architectural design and textile experimentation. The ‘O Series,’ developed with Ambientec, includes flower-inspired lamps with organic pleats made from recycled polyester Steam Stretch, a technology that reacts to heat to form three-dimensional textures.
Meanwhile, the ‘A Series’ highlights the use of seamless knitted fabric in collaboration with PARACHILNA. Its lamp shades, woven into rolls, can adapt to various shapes through wireframes, allowing for custom configurations.
Both series represent the shared vision of the designers, pushing the boundaries of contemporary design beyond fashion. Through this initiative, Issey Miyake and Atelier Oï demonstrate how creativity and innovation can transform materials into objects of beauty and functionality.
