James Gunn’s reboot arrives on HBO Max with a sign language edition and an exclusive interactive experience for fans.
After a successful global theatrical run, Superman—the highly anticipated film directed by James Gunn and starring David Corenswet—now has an official streaming release date: it will premiere on HBO Max on 19 September, followed by its HBO linear debut the next day.
As part of its commitment to accessibility, the platform will include a special version of the film interpreted in American Sign Language (ASL) by Giovanni Maucere, under the direction of Leila Hanaumi. This adaptation will ensure that deaf and hard-of-hearing audiences can fully engage with the story on an emotional level.
To mark the premiere, HBO Max will undergo a full transformation: the app will deliver an interactive experience inspired by the superhero’s universe, featuring a complete Daily Planet takeover, themed curations, bespoke visual styles and hidden portals such as access to Lex Luthor’s “Pocket Prison.”
With a global box office of $615 million, Superman is already the seventh highest-grossing film of 2025, solidifying DC’s new direction on the big screen. Its sequel, Man of Tomorrow, is slated for release on 9 July 2027.
Superman lands exclusively on HBO Max on 19 September.
