JISOO stars in ‘Portraits of a Screen Star’, Self-Portrait’s new cinematic campaign blending fashion, performance and four different identities.

JISOO continues to expand her relationship with Self-Portrait, this time moving away from the traditional fashion campaign format. The BLACKPINK member stars in Portraits of a Screen Star, a project comprising four short films in which she plays completely different characters, while pieces from the London-based fashion house become an essential tool in shaping each identity.

Conceived as a series of imaginary cinematic auditions, the campaign reveals a different side of the South Korean artist. In front of the camera, JISOO does more than simply showcase Self-Portrait’s latest designs, using wardrobe, gestures and performance to transform herself into four women, each with a distinct personality.

The series was photographed and filmed in Seoul by Oliver Hadlee Pearch, while Han Chong, founder and creative director of Self-Portrait, worked closely with the singer and actress to develop the different wardrobes. The clothes effectively become an extension of each character, helping to establish the subtle distinctions between one performance and the next.

The first chapter, entitled The Enigma, introduces a curious, unpredictable JISOO with a mischievous streak. Her wardrobe combines several pieces from Self-Portrait’s latest collection, including a grey buttoned knitted playsuit, a red checked frayed-knit jacket and a purple faux-leather skirt.

The format deliberately recreates the feeling of watching a screen test. The star looks directly into the camera, shifts her expressions and moves between playful moments and displays of greater confidence, placing the campaign somewhere between a film, an audition and a fashion editorial.

“Maybe we’re not supposed to have everything figured out,” JISOO says during the short film. “I always liked wandering.”

The project represents a natural evolution of a collaboration that began long before these new films. In 2024, JISOO became the first musician to front a Self-Portrait campaign, although she had already worn the fashion house’s designs on numerous occasions before officially taking on the role.

Now, the relationship is entering a much more narrative territory. For the artist, portraying four different identities meant finding subtle codes capable of distinguishing one from another. The wardrobe ultimately became a fundamental part of that process.

“The evolution of the character’s wardrobe was how I found the nuance in each performance,” JISOO explains of her collaboration with Han Chong. The star also says that wearing Self-Portrait has always given her a sense of possibility, something she was able to explore even further on this occasion by imagining herself becoming entirely different people.

For Chong, the concept stems precisely from JISOO’s versatility and the relationship the pair have developed over the past few years. Her ability to move effortlessly between different personas made it possible to replace the traditional succession of campaign photographs with an experience built around performance.

The project also fits naturally with the multidisciplinary profile the artist has developed beyond BLACKPINK. Music, acting and fashion have long coexisted throughout her career, making a campaign constructed around cinematic characters particularly fitting for the next stage of her evolution.
