The actor strengthens the cast of Fox’s new series, a medical comedy set in a quirky coastal town in the United States.

Josh Segarra continues to expand his presence on television with a new milestone project. The actor has joined ‘Best Medicine’ as a series regular, starring alongside Josh Charles and Abigail Spencer. The series will begin filming this summer in upstate New York.

Inspired by the successful British drama ‘Doc Martin’, Best Medicine follows Martin Best (Charles), a brilliant surgeon who abruptly leaves his prestigious career in Boston to become the local GP in a small and eccentric fishing village on the East Coast, where he spent summers as a child. His extraordinary medical talent contrasts sharply with his dry, blunt and not particularly empathetic personality, which quickly causes friction with the locals, especially with Louisa Glasson (Spencer), a schoolteacher.

This is where Josh Segarra’s character steps in: he will portray Sheriff Mark Mylow, a warm, optimistic officer deeply connected to the community. Although not especially sharp intellectually, he knows the town like the back of his hand. Following a recent breakup with Louisa, Mark unexpectedly finds an ally in Martin, resulting in an awkward emotional triangle as the doctor and the teacher grow closer.

The series is positioned as a one-hour comedy blending medical cases with human dynamics shaped by the clash between Martin’s voluntary isolation and the community’s persistent warmth as they refuse to let him remain alone. Beneath his apparent coldness, the protagonist hides deep fears and psychological conflicts that hinder his ability to connect with those around him.

‘Best Medicine’ is produced by Fox Entertainment Studios, with a creative team led by Ben Silverman, Liz Tuccillo and Mark Crowdy, among others, and international distribution handled by Fox Entertainment Global.

Segarra is currently enjoying a particularly strong moment in his career, with recent appearances in the Netflix miniseries ‘Sirens’, the acclaimed ‘Abbott Elementary’, and titles such as ‘Scream 6’, ‘She-Hulk’ and ‘The Other Two’, confirming his status as one of the most versatile television actors working today.
