Kelly Clarkson has revealed how she responded with humour to her former manager after he suggested she undergo breast surgery, defending authenticity and self-acceptance.

During one of her concerts in Las Vegas, the 43-year-old singer surprised the audience with an anecdote that perfectly captured her character and her stance on beauty standards in the music industry. She recalled how a former representative once suggested she have cosmetic surgery — and her comeback was impeccable.

“I once had this idiot manager who told me I should get a boob job,” she said, laughing during her Studio Sessions show. “I told him, ‘Why don’t you get one yourself?’ I’m perfectly fine the way I am.”

The American Idol winner took the opportunity to reflect on the aesthetic pressure artists face and how casually people comment on others’ bodies in the industry. “People say those kinds of things all the time, and the worst part is it’s become normalised. It’s insane,” she told the cheering crowd.

Clarkson also noted that many surgical results aren’t as positive as people expect: “Everyone ends up looking like they’re from The Hunger Games, from the Capitol.” Even so, she made it clear that she respects individual choices: “Do whatever you want, but don’t force me to do it. I love my small boobs — they’ve served me well.”
