Nicolas Cage reveals he refused to sign an AI consent agreement for ‘Spider-Noir’, casting doubt on whether he will work with Amazon again.
Nicolas Cage has once again taken a firm stance against the use of artificial intelligence in Hollywood. During a panel at New York Comic Con, the actor revealed that he refused to sign an agreement authorising the use of AI in ‘Spider-Noir’, the upcoming Prime Video series, and suggested that his decision could bring his professional relationship with Amazon to an end.
‘How do you survive AI?’ the actor asked during the discussion. Cage pointed to Amazon’s significant investment in the technology and made his position clear: ‘I’m not a pro-AI actor. I’m not part of that club. I didn’t sign the release for them to use AI in ‘Spider-Noir’. I probably won’t work with that studio again, but that’s fine.’
His decision reflects a growing concern among actors and professionals across the entertainment industry: the extent to which studios should be allowed to reproduce an individual’s likeness, voice or performances using generative AI tools.
Cage has no intention of being part of that model. Rather than embracing automation, he explained that he is interested in continuing to work with young Generation Z filmmakers who remain committed to more traditional, human-led approaches to filmmaking.
The actor also made it clear that his opposition to certain uses of AI does not mean he intends to slow down professionally. His upcoming projects include ‘Perish’, and during the same event, he revealed plans to appear in the fifth season of ‘True Detective’.
His message, however, was unequivocal. As major studios continue to increase their investment in artificial intelligence, Nicolas Cage appears willing to walk away from future collaborations rather than surrender control over his own image and creative work.
