Bear Payne, the nine-year-old son of Liam Payne and Cheryl Tweedy, has been named the sole heir to the late singer’s multimillion-dollar estate.

The future of Liam Payne’s estate has now been clarified. More than a year after the former One Direction star’s tragic death, court documents have confirmed that his son, Bear Payne, will inherit the entirety of his father’s fortune, estimated at nearly $29 million.

According to legal filings, the nine-year-old has been named the sole beneficiary of an estate valued at approximately $29,007,998. While part of the funds may be used to support his upbringing and day-to-day needs, the majority of the inheritance will remain protected within a trust until he reaches adulthood.

The arrangement stems from the fact that Liam Payne died without leaving a will. As a result, temporary administration of the estate has been entrusted to Cheryl Tweedy, Bear’s mother, alongside solicitor Richard Mark Bray, who have been appointed to manage and safeguard the singer’s assets while the legal process continues.

The news has renewed public attention on the close bond Payne shared with his son. Throughout the years, the singer frequently spoke about how profoundly fatherhood had changed his life following Bear’s birth in March 2017.

In a 2018 interview, Payne admitted that becoming a father at a relatively young age had transformed his priorities. While balancing international fame with family life was often challenging, he repeatedly described parenthood as one of the most meaningful aspects of his life.

The singer often shared humorous anecdotes about watching his son grow up, expressing amazement at how quickly childhood seemed to pass. Friends and family members frequently described Bear as the centre of Payne’s world, with the artist proudly speaking about his role as a father whenever possible.

The inheritance decision comes as relatives continue to navigate the aftermath of the singer’s sudden passing. Liam Payne died on 16 October 2024 at the age of 31 after falling from a hotel balcony in the Palermo district of Buenos Aires, Argentina. The official post-mortem concluded that he suffered multiple traumatic injuries and severe internal and external haemorrhaging as a result of the fall.

Subsequent investigations determined that Payne was alone at the time of the incident. Toxicology reports later revealed the presence of alcohol, cocaine and a prescribed antidepressant in his system. Argentine authorities stated that there was no evidence of third-party involvement and found no indications suggesting a deliberate act, concluding that the singer may have been experiencing an altered state of consciousness when the accident occurred.

Payne’s death shocked millions of fans around the world and left a lasting impact on the music industry. Now, as legal matters surrounding his estate move towards resolution, attention turns to Bear Payne, the son who always occupied a central place in the singer’s life.

At just nine years old, Bear becomes the sole heir to a fortune built through a career that began with One Direction and later evolved into a successful solo journey, cementing Liam Payne as one of the defining voices of his generation.
