The singer Lorde opened up on a podcast about her decision to stop taking hormonal contraceptives and how it affected her mood. Discover her striking statements.
New Zealand singer Lorde surprised fans when she revealed why she chose to stop using hormonal contraception during her appearance on the podcast Therapuss with Jake Shane. With refreshing honesty, the ‘Royals’ and ‘Man of the Year’ artist discussed the impact it had on both her body and mind.
“I just needed to see what would happen if I stopped,” confessed Lorde, whose real name is Ella Yelich-O’Connor. “It was like ripping off a plaster—something I had to do. It was pretty tough, I won’t lie. It was crazy, totally crazy.”
The Grammy winner explained that the process was emotionally challenging: “My mood was really unstable… but I also felt like, ‘I feel like myself in a different way’. I still haven’t found exactly what’s right for me.”
Finally, Lorde shared a message for others going through similar experiences:
“I’m proud of you for listening to your body, because it’s really hard to do that. I only started listening to mine two years ago.”
Her upcoming album, Virgin, is set to release on 25 June, promising a new musical and personal chapter.
