The actor puts an end to speculation over Hulk’s absence from Marvel’s next major ensemble film, while leaving the door open to a future comeback.
Mark Ruffalo has put an end to months of speculation, confirming that Hulk will not be part of Avengers: Doomsday, the next major ensemble chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The news has surprised fans, particularly as core MCU veterans such as Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth and Robert Downey Jr. are all set to return in this new phase of the franchise.
Speaking to Empire, Ruffalo addressed Bruce Banner’s absence directly, striking a calm and optimistic tone about the character’s long-term future. “As long as they keep finding cool things to do with Hulk, it’s all good,” the actor explained, highlighting the profound impact his time at Marvel has had on his career. According to Ruffalo, his involvement in The Avengers proved instrumental in opening doors to new opportunities across Hollywood.
Although Hulk will not be present for the battle against Doctor Doom in Doomsday, Ruffalo’s comments make it clear that his journey in the MCU is far from over. The actor expressed his willingness to reprise the role in future projects such as Avengers: Secret Wars or other upcoming instalments yet to be announced, keeping fan expectations firmly alive.
Hulk will also not disappear entirely from the Marvel landscape in 2026. Ruffalo is confirmed to return as the character in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, where he will star alongside Tom Holland, Jon Bernthal and Sadie Sink. The film is scheduled for a 31 July theatrical release, ensuring that while Doomsday may move forward without him, the emerald giant still holds a significant place in the MCU’s evolving future.
Hulk’s absence from Avengers: Doomsday marks an unexpected narrative shift for Marvel, but it also underscores the studio’s ongoing reshuffle as it builds towards its next wave of blockbuster events.
