Variety reveals that Meryl Streep agreed to a pay equality deal with Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt for ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’.

  • The three leading stars will each receive $12.5 million following the sequel’s global success.

The return of The Devil Wears Prada 2 is not only dominating the box office, it is also generating one of Hollywood’s most talked-about salary negotiations. According to Variety, Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt will all receive exactly the same salary for starring in the sequel: $12.5 million each.

The figure has attracted particular attention because, according to several sources cited by the American outlet, Meryl Streep could have negotiated a far larger contract in order to reprise the iconic role of Miranda Priestly. In fact, the actress reportedly had room to secure a deal worth close to $15 million, considering both her importance to the franchise and her legendary status within the industry.

However, Streep is said to have reduced her financial agreement in order to secure an equal-pay contract alongside Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt, who return as Andrea Sachs and Emily Charlton two decades after the release of the original film.

The arrangement, known in Hollywood as a favoured nations deal, guarantees that all three actresses receive identical financial terms within the project, including substantial bonuses tied to box office performance.

And those bonuses already appear to be activating. The film, once again directed by David Frankel, has already surpassed $300 million at the global box office and is expected to remain at the top of the charts in the coming weeks.

According to estimates published by Variety, all three actresses could ultimately earn more than $20 million each if the phenomenon continues to grow internationally.

Meryl Streep’s decision has been particularly praised on social media, as it reinforces one of the most memorable aspects of the original film: the collective chemistry between its leading women. While Miranda Priestly created a ruthless hierarchy over Andrea and Emily on screen, behind the scenes the actress reportedly wanted to ensure a far more equal financial arrangement.

The sequel to ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ has already become one of the year’s biggest cinematic successes, reigniting conversations around a franchise that, twenty years later, continues to hold enormous cultural influence within fashion, cinema and pop culture.
