In a rare moment of vulnerability, Miley Cyrus has shared the true reason she stepped back from touring. Far from drama or speculation, her confession strikes at the very heart of her artistry—and her identity.

For years, fans wondered why Miley Cyrus, known for her electrifying stage presence, had chosen to distance herself from live performances. Now, in an open conversation with Zane Lowe, the singer has provided clarity. It’s not due to exhaustion or industry pressure—it’s about preserving the very essence of who she is.

“I love my fans deeply,” she emphasised. “This has nothing to do with a lack of appreciation. It’s just that I no longer want to get ready every night in a makeshift dressing room. That’s the reality of touring.”

But the real reason runs deeper. Miley revealed that she suffers from Reinke’s oedema, a condition affecting the vocal cords. “It’s essentially damage built up over years of straining my voice—late nights, concerts, parties. But it’s not just about my lifestyle. It’s something I live with,” she explained.

The star added that she has a large polyp on one of her vocal cords, which is ironically responsible for the vocal texture her fans adore. “That’s what gives me that raspy tone,” she said. However, it’s a double-edged sword: removing the polyp could mean waking up with an unrecognisable voice. “The risk of losing my sound? It’s real. So for now, it’s my voice or nothing.”

Despite stepping away from touring, Miley views her unique voice as both a gift and a challenge. “It’s what makes me who I am,” she reflected. Even though the stage lights are off for now, her voice—authentic, raw, and fragile—remains her most powerful statement.
