Pamela, Gigi and Lorde were stunning at the 2025 Met Gala—but they completely ignored the powerful central theme.
The 2025 Met Gala promised an exquisite reflection on the history of Black style with its theme, ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style’. Yet some stars chose to shine on their own terms, setting aside the broader context. Pamela Anderson, Gigi Hadid and Lorde were three of the most talked-about appearances of the night—not necessarily for honouring the brief.
Pamela Anderson, radiant at 57, arrived in a structured Tory Burch gown embellished with blue, red and silver crystals. Though her long-sleeved silhouette gave a subtle nod to the Tailored for You dress code, the truth is that the actress did not engage with either the spirit or cultural roots of the tribute. Her fresh blonde bob with micro fringe and minimalist makeup reaffirmed her elegance—but the deeper message was blurred.
Gigi Hadid, meanwhile, dazzled in gold, wearing a gown that looked more like a futuristic dream than a response to the night’s theme. With no visible nod to Black fashion or the art of African-American tailoring, the model leaned into a classic Hollywood aesthetic—flawless, but disconnected.
Lorde, ever the chameleon, surprised with an ethereal ensemble that also failed to engage with the concept. Her look felt more like an extension of her current artistic universe than an interpretation of the gala’s theme. While there was clear aesthetic intent, the connection to the history of Black tailoring—and to the night’s core message—was missing.

Yes, all three shone. But at a gala meant to celebrate Black identity and history through fashion, their choices left an impression of beauty… without context.
