The Pierre Cardin fashion show in Paris merges past and future, showcasing a technological and sustainable collection under the direction of Rodrigo Basilicati-Cardin.

The show, held last night under the Eiffel Tower during the penultimate day of Paris Fashion Week, was a journey through time and a tribute to Pierre Cardin‘s legacy. The new collection of the maison, now under the creative direction of Rodrigo Basilicati-Cardin, the great-nephew of the founder, presented a vision that blends past and future.

Divided into four parts, the show displayed a fusion of technology and sustainability. Basilicati-Cardin, an engineer by training, has taken on both the creative and business aspects of the brand since Pierre Cardin’s passing in 2020. “This collection is inspired by energy recovery, a technological evolution from the previous one, which was based on the sea from a more natural perspective,” explained Basilicati-Cardin.

Geometry, a constant in the brand’s designs, is still present, but with a more fluid approach, utilizing techniques such as 3D printing. Additionally, recycled and sustainable materials were incorporated, with historic fabrics like vinyl and wool crepe sourced from the house’s archives, giving new life to these pieces.

This fashion show is just one part of the brand’s renaissance. In early September, Pierre Cardin also introduced a training suit for lunar missions, designed for astronauts of the ‘European Space Agency.’ Although Cardin himself is no longer here to witness these advancements, his legacy remains alive, inching closer to fulfilling his dream of reaching the moon.

Moreover, the house is preparing to open a museum in 2025 on rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, where the history of the brand will be celebrated since its inception in 1950.
