An unexpected move from Harry could be rekindling broken ties with his father. Is a royal truce on the horizon?
After years of public tension and formal distance, Prince Harry is said to have taken a quiet yet telling step towards reconciliation with his family. According to The Mail on Sunday, the Duke of Sussex offered to share his official schedule of events and appearances with the Royal Household in an effort to avoid future media clashes with the British family’s commitments.
This gesture comes after his recent visit to Angola overshadowed Queen Camilla’s 78th birthday in the press, causing unease at Buckingham Palace. By aligning his appearances with the royal calendar, Harry aims to steer clear of the narrative of confrontation or attention-seeking that has surrounded his actions since stepping down from royal duties in 2020.
But beyond the calendar, the gesture is symbolic. A private meeting held on 9 July in London between two of Harry’s advisers and King Charles III’s communications secretary has been interpreted as an opening of dialogue after years of silence. “It was a good first step. It’s always better to be talking,” a source close to People said.
Since the King’s cancer diagnosis, father and son have only met once, in February 2024. This new dynamic could pave the way for a future personal meeting, although no date has yet been confirmed.
However, the meeting was not communicated to the Prince and Princess of Wales. Sources close to William and Kate stated that they were not asked to send any representatives to the Royal Over-Seas League, highlighting the ongoing tension between the brothers. “The fact that it ended up in the papers says a lot,” a source told the Daily Mail.
Speaking to the BBC last May, Harry expressed his desire to reconnect with his family. “I’d love a reconciliation. There’s no point in continuing to fight,” he said, adding a poignant reflection: “I don’t know how much time my father has left.”
The road to peace won’t be easy, but this quiet gesture could be the key to reopening the door.
