The Canadian actor may star in Shawn Levy’s upcoming project.

Ryan Gosling, a three-time Oscar nominee, is reportedly in talks to headline the next Star Wars film, directed by Shawn Levy. Known for projects such as ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ and ‘The Adam Project‘, Levy has been developing this movie since 2022. Although Lucasfilm has yet to comment, it’s widely believed that the film will be a standalone story, separate from the Skywalker saga.

Levy has also hinted that the film may not focus on the Jedi and Sith but will instead explore new stories and characters, aiming to deliver something fresh and different for the beloved galactic franchise.

Following his performance in ‘Barbie‘, one of 2023’s most successful films, and ‘The Fall Guy‘, it’s clear that Ryan Gosling is enjoying a strong moment in his career. If he officially signs on, production could begin in autumn 2025. His involvement might prompt this project to become Shawn Levy’s immediate priority, taking precedence over his original plans to direct a film about a boy band with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. If that’s the case, this Star Wars film could be the next release for the franchise, following ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu‘, slated for 22 May 2026.

This isn’t the first time Ryan Gosling has been linked to the Star Wars universe. In 2013, there were rumours that he and Zac Efron were being considered for the role of Kylo Ren, which ultimately went to Adam Driver. However, this project seems to be the definitive opportunity for Gosling to join the saga. The film promises to be one of the franchise’s most ambitious in recent years, and the potential involvement of Ryan has already generated significant excitement among fans.
