Scarlett Johansson confirms she will not return as Black Widow, neither in Doomsday nor in future projects of the franchise.
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Scarlett Johansson put an end to the hopes of millions of fans: she will not reprise her role as Black Widow in Avengers: Doomsday or in any other instalment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The actress explained that, although she misses her castmates, she feels that Natasha Romanoff’s story reached its climax with the character’s sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame. “I miss my friends and I would love to always be with them, but what works about the character is that her story is complete. I don’t want to spoil that. It’s important for the fans too,” Johansson stated.
The actress’s last appearance as Black Widow was in 2021 with the character’s solo film, which introduced Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) and the Red Guardian, who are now key figures in the MCU’s narrative. Although Natasha will not return, her legacy lives on in Yelena’s evolution, who takes up the mantle strongly in the new era of the Avengers.
