From Marvel to holiday movies, the actress and former athlete talks about career turns, dream projects and festive memories.

Susie Abromeit first stole our attention as the magnetic Pam in Netflix’s ‘Jessica Jones’, and later in action hits like ‘The Forever Purge’ or ‘Battle: Los Angeles’. But her story began far from the screen: once ranked number 6 in the US in junior tennis, Susie brings the same drive and precision to her acting career — one that now blends film, travel and production.

“I think we can all encompass many things at any given time,” she reflects when asked to define herself. “But if I had to sum it up, I’d say I’m big-hearted, kind, enthusiastic, artistic, intuitive and spiritual… with a slightly neurotic personality!” she adds with a laugh.

After her Marvel days, Susie found herself signing a four-picture deal with Great American Pure Flix, including roles as lead actress and executive producer. “They were fantastic projects, and I’m very proud of them,” she says. One of them premieres this season: ‘Designing Christmas with You’, a feel-good romantic comedy in which Susie plays Colbie Clark, a talented designer on the verge of professional success who must team up with a creative opposite to deliver a high-stakes Christmas project. “The tension between the characters reminded me of the rom-coms I grew up watching,” she shares. “Liam, Jo, and the whole cast were a delight to work with.”

When choosing roles, Susie follows three guiding questions from her acting coach: “Do I like the story and the character? Do I want to work with these people? Is it well-paying?” she explains. “Two out of three need to be a yes.” But more than anything, it’s the storytelling that draws her in.

“My dream is to tell powerful stories with my best friends and work with the people I respect most in this industry.”

Off set, her favourite moments come during the holidays: “Spending time with family, a glass of wine or hot chocolate, Christmas movies by the fire… it’s magical.” And travel, of course. Last year brought her to Iceland and Australia; a week in Japan followed. “I go to London often — I love it — and Spain has been on my list for a while. I can’t wait to visit.”

Looking ahead, Susie is focused on creating meaningful stories with the people she trusts most. “My dream is to develop shows like Succession or Breaking Bad, alongside my best friends,” she says. “I’d love to work with Martin Scorsese, the Coen brothers, or Christopher Nolan one day. That would be the ultimate.”
