Sydney Sweeney will both star in and executive produce the remake of ‘That Man From Rio’, a modern satire of the James Bond universe.

Sydney Sweeney is ready for adventure. The Euphoria and Madame Web star has been confirmed as the lead in the remake of ‘That Man From Rio’, an action-comedy spy film paying witty tribute to the James Bond world. In addition to taking the starring role, the actress will also serve as an executive producer on the project.

The film is being developed by Apple Originals, directed by Justin Lin (Fast & Furious) and written by Chase Palmer, known for It. It marks a new collaboration between Sweeney, Apple and producer Kevin Walsh, following their previous work together on the thriller Echo Valley.

Originally released in 1964, ‘That Man From Rio’ was a French spy spoof starring Jean-Paul Belmondo, following a young airman and his fiancée who are swept into a surreal quest to recover a priceless Amazonian statue.

The upcoming remake promises to refresh that story with a contemporary aesthetic and a tone of refined humour, aligning with the renewed appetite for playful espionage adventures. The news also arrives amid growing rumours that Sweeney could become the next “Bond girl” in the official 007 reboot, particularly after the franchise’s acquisition by Amazon MGM Studios.
