Taylor Swift makes history as ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, surpassing Adele’s record with massive first-week sales.
Taylor Swift has just written a new chapter in her career. Her latest release, ‘The Life of a Showgirl’, has debuted straight at number one on the Billboard 200, achieving figures never before seen in modern music history.
The album recorded 4.002 million equivalent units in its first week, including 3,479,500 pure sales and 522,600 streaming equivalent units, with over 680.9 million on-demand streams. These numbers make ‘The Life of a Showgirl‘ the highest single-week total since Luminate began collecting electronic data in 1991.
With this achievement, Swift dethrones Adele and her iconic 25, setting a new benchmark for both pure sales and single-week equivalent units. The singer also becomes the artist with the second-most No. 1 albums in history, surpassing Drake and JAY-Z, and now standing just behind The Beatles.
This week’s top 10 also features the KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack at No. 2, Morgan Wallen at Nos. 3 and 10, Cardi B at No. 4, Sabrina Carpenter at No. 5, and Bad Bunny, Olivia Dean, Alex Warren and SZA filling positions six through nine.
