Three documentaries exploring the case of Luigi Mangione, the primary suspect in the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, are currently in production. These projects are being led by renowned filmmakers such as Oscar winner Alex Gibney, Emmy nominee Stephen Robert Morse, and journalist Dan Abrams.

The first documentary is helmed by Alex Gibney, known for works like ‘The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley’ and ‘Taxi to the Dark Side’. Produced by Jigsaw Productions and Anonymous Content, this project will explore the origins of such killers, their reflection on society, and “the values we place on who lives and who dies.”

Stephen Robert Morse, producer of the Netflix documentary on Amanda Knox, will offer a different perspective. His film will examine the viewpoints of the victims, their families, and the suspect himself. Additionally, it will delve into the “moral complexities” of the case and provide historical context on privatised health insurance in the United States.

Finally, Dan Abrams, founder of Law & Crime, will lead a one-hour special for Investigation Discovery. This documentary will investigate lingering questions about Mangione’s arrest and explore how a privileged young man could commit such a brutal crime, examining the psychology behind the alleged killer.

Mangione, aged 26, was arrested in December, accused of using a ghost gun to murder Brian Thompson. The case has sent shockwaves through the United States and beyond.
