Jeremy Renner confirms Hawkeye will not appear in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and reveals that Marvel never even contacted him about returning.
Jeremy Renner will not be appearing in Avengers: Doomsday. The actor, who has portrayed Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for more than a decade, has confirmed that his character will not be part of the next major superhero reunion. And the most surprising aspect is not his absence, but the reason behind it: according to Renner, nobody from the studio contacted him about reprising his role.
During a meeting with fans at Liverpool Comic Con, Renner was unequivocal when asked whether audiences would see him return as Clint Barton. “No, no, no, no. Not in that one,” he replied, before issuing a light-hearted warning to his former co-stars.
“I’m not in ‘Doomsday’, so the Avengers are probably going to lose, just so you know. They didn’t call me, so it’s their fault. They’re going to lose,” the actor joked, making it clear that, at least publicly, his absence was not his own decision.
The news comes after Renner expressed his interest in returning to the Marvel universe in 2025, both for a potential second season of Hawkeye and for future films. The actor has been gradually rebuilding his career following the serious snowplough accident he suffered in January 2023, which left him with multiple injuries and required a lengthy recovery.
Although he will not be taking part in the upcoming instalment, Renner has expressed his excitement about the theatrical re-release of Avengers: Endgame, which originally premiered in 2019.
Meanwhile, Marvel Studios is preparing for the release of Avengers: Doomsday, directed by brothers Anthony and Joe Russo, which is scheduled to arrive in Spanish cinemas on 17 December 2026. The film will bring together numerous characters from the company’s cinematic universe, although this time they will have to face their latest threat without one of the team’s original members.
