Timothée Chalamet reveals how he gained 9 kilos to portray Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown, his new biopic.

Timothée Chalamet has spoken about his preparation to play the iconic Bob Dylan in the new biographical film A Complete Unknown. In a recent interview on NPR’s All Things Considered podcast, the 29-year-old actor shared details about how he immersed himself in the role and revealed that, in addition to studying Dylan’s physicality and behaviour, he had to gain weight to achieve a closer resemblance to the legendary musician.

Chalamet confessed that he gained around 9 kilos to portray the young Dylan, pointing out that at the time he was even thinner than the artist himself. “I did everything I could to look like Bob. All the physical and behavioural work, but I also gained weight because I was thinner than him,” said the actor.

This is not the first role in which Timothée has been affected by his physique. On several occasions, he has revealed how criticism of his thinness cost him major roles. In 2024, he shared that he had lost opportunities for not meeting the required physical standards, although he explained that he couldn’t gain weight due to his metabolism.
