Timothée Chalamet stars in ‘Marty Supreme’, the new sports drama by Josh Safdie for A24
A24 has released the full trailer for ‘Marty Supreme’, the upcoming sports drama directed by Josh Safdie and starring Timothée Chalamet. The film, set to hit cinemas on 25 December, follows the life of Marty Mauser, a young table tennis player determined to achieve sporting glory at any cost.
The two-and-a-half-minute trailer opens with a conversation between Marty and Kay Stone (played by Gwyneth Paltrow), who advises him to be more realistic about his professional ambitions. Convinced of his talent, Marty ignores the warnings of those around him and embarks on a journey filled with sacrifice, fleeting friendships, and moments of obsession with perfection. Along the way, he encounters figures who oscillate between support and manipulation, in a story that blends ambition, vulnerability, and redemption.
The cast also features Odessa A’Zion, Kevin O’Leary, Tyler Okonma (Tyler, the Creator), Abel Ferrara, and Fran Drescher, bringing together acclaimed actors with unexpected names from the music and film scene. Safdie co-wrote the screenplay with Ronald Bronstein, with production by Eli Bush, Anthony Katagas, and Chalamet himself.
The character of Marty Mauser is loosely inspired by Marty Reisman, a real-life table tennis legend who won 22 international titles and became the oldest player to win a national open competition in 1997. With his raw and energetic style, Safdie revisits the aesthetic that made him a standout voice after ‘Uncut Gems’, delivering a portrait of sacrifice and obsession within professional sport.
Set for release on 25 December, ‘Marty Supreme’ is poised to become one of the most intense and talked-about films of the season.
