Renowned Italian luxury brand Loro Piana has been placed under judicial oversight by a Milan court following allegations of labour exploitation in its supply chain. The investigation focuses on irregular practices involving unauthorised subcontractors who are believed to have violated workers’ rights.
In an official statement, Loro Piana confirmed it had received a notice from the Milan court regarding these irregularities. The company explained that one of its suppliers breached legal and contractual obligations by failing to disclose the involvement of unauthorised subcontractors. Upon learning of the situation, the brand immediately terminated its relationship with the supplier in question.
The Italian firm reaffirmed its commitment to upholding human rights and strictly complying with labour regulations throughout its supply chain. It also emphasised that it conducts regular inspections and audits to ensure its suppliers adhere to the high ethical and quality standards outlined in its Code of Conduct.
Media outlets had reported that Loro Piana’s cashmere jackets, which retail for around €3,000, allegedly cost only €100 to produce through subcontractors. The company denied these figures, stating they do not reflect actual production costs and fail to account for the value of raw materials and other inputs.
Loro Piana also expressed its full willingness to cooperate with authorities throughout the investigation and to support any additional proceedings that ensure transparency and legality across its supply chain. The company is part of the LVMH group and is currently led by Frédéric Arnault, who recently assumed the role of CEO.
This case is not isolated within the luxury sector. Other major brands such as Dior and Giorgio Armani have faced similar investigations over alleged labour violations among their suppliers. In both instances, after implementing improvements in their supply chains, the legal proceedings were lifted.
