Taylor Swift has shared how she cared for her father, Scott, following his major quintuple bypass surgery, living together during his recovery.
In her first appearance on Travis and Jason Kelce’s New Heights podcast, Taylor Swift revealed that her father, Scott Swift, 73, underwent a “really intense” quintuple bypass this summer.
The singer explained that although her father had always had “perfect electrocardiograms” at his annual check-ups, a cardiac stress test revealed five blockages. “He’s telling all his friends to get the stress test, because that’s truly preventative,” Swift said, noting that early detection can allow for less invasive treatments such as stents.
Despite Scott insisting his children were “busy” and didn’t need to come, Taylor flew to be at the hospital and ended up moving in with him over the summer to help with his recovery. “This man built swings and cribs for me; now I’m building his shower chair, his walker and his special bed,” she recalled.
Swift fondly remembered how her father, fresh out of surgery, improvised a 15-minute comedy monologue for family and friends present. He also tried to hand out guitar picks to doctors and nurses, with no pockets in his hospital gown. “It was surreal… and he was the most charming patient, always saying thank you,” she added.
The artist detailed how, alongside her mother and her brother, Austin Swift, they took turns being with him 24 hours a day in the ICU. “It was like a role reversal: now we were the ones looking after him,” she said.
In the same episode, Swift also announced that her twelfth album, ‘The Life of a Showgirl’, will be released on 3 October.
