Balenciaga unveils the Monday and Hampton, iconic sneakers that mark Demna’s farewell and redefine urban luxury with an exclusive edge.

The world of luxury footwear opens a new chapter with the arrival of the Balenciaga Monday and Balenciaga Hampton, Demna’s final releases before his transition to Gucci. With this double debut, the Parisian house cements a legacy that has seamlessly blended streetwear and sophistication, setting a milestone in the recent history of fashion.

The Monday comes as a retro-inspired hybrid, channelling the essence of 1990s running shoes reimagined through Balenciaga’s unmistakable lens. Full-grain leather, raw edges and exposed stitching give the design an almost handcrafted appeal, while the ultra-light technical sole delivers modernity and comfort. Priced at $995, it reflects its firmly exclusive positioning.

In contrast, the Hampton embraces refined minimalism. Clean lines, supple leather and perfectly balanced proportions make this model an ode to quiet elegance as the new luxury. Retailing at $890 on the brand’s online boutique, it emerges as a versatile piece, equally at home in urban looks as in more understated, everyday wardrobes.

The launch is accompanied by an international campaign featuring top models such as Kit Butler and Mathieu Simoneau, captured by Collier Schorr with styling by Marie Chaix, reinforcing Balenciaga’s global influence within sneaker culture.

Demna’s departure ushers in a stage of uncertainty over the brand’s future in this segment. Yet these sneakers work both as a conclusion and a starting point: they summarise an era that placed Balenciaga at the centre of cultural conversation while raising the question of whether the house will retain its magnetism without its most disruptive creative at the helm.

With the Monday and Hampton, Balenciaga delivers more than sneakers: it delivers a manifesto of identity. A reminder that contemporary luxury is no longer defined solely by exclusivity, but also by its ability to engage with the street, reinterpret it, and return it transformed into cutting-edge fashion.
