The artist Madonna responds to Celta de Vigo after the club launched a public search for the jersey she wore during her 1990 concert at Balaídos.
Singer Madonna has surprised Celta de Vigo after publicly confirming that she still keeps the club’s historic blue-and-white jersey that she wore during her concert at Balaídos Stadium in 1990. The revelation comes after the club’s president, Marián Mouriño Terrazo, launched a public search to locate the garment.
The initiative began with an open letter published by the club inviting anyone with information about the jersey to help trace its whereabouts. In the message, the president recalled the cultural impact of Madonna’s concert in Vigo more than three decades ago and highlighted the connection between the artist’s rebellious spirit and the identity of the football club.
“Over time we came to better understand what you represented in that moment: challenging established norms and standing up to those who try to tell you what you can or cannot do,” the letter addressed to Madonna stated. It also expressed the club’s wish to recover the jersey as a historic symbol for its legacy.
The club also shared the message on social media, directly mentioning the singer and explaining that the jersey represents the link between Madonna’s musical passion and the football tradition of Celta de Vigo. The post was accompanied by images of a recent choral performance of the classic ‘Like A Prayer’, sung at Balaídos before a match between Celta de Vigo and Real Madrid.
Madonna’s response arrived on 7 March, when the artist replied directly to the club. “This jersey is hanging in my archives,” the singer wrote, adding that she wore it at the time to represent the team in spirit.
Meanwhile, the artist is also preparing her musical comeback. Madonna recently confirmed that she is working on a new album titled ‘Confessions On A Dance Floor Part 2’, a sequel to the 2005 record that could be released during 2026.
