Inter Miami unveils the “Leo Messi Stand” at its new stadium, an unprecedented tribute to Messi while he remains an active player.
Inter Miami CF has announced that one of the main sections of its new stadium, the Nu Stadium, will be named after Lionel Messi. The area, called the “Leo Messi Stand”, will span several sections across both the lower and upper tiers and will be officially unveiled on 4 April, coinciding with the venue’s opening match.
The gesture marks a rare move in professional sport, where tributes of this kind are typically reserved for retired figures. In this case, the club has chosen to recognise the player’s immediate impact while he remains active, making him one of the few athletes currently competing in a stadium that features a stand bearing his name.
Since arriving in Miami in 2023, Messi has transformed the club both on and off the pitch. The Argentine has established himself as the team’s all-time leading scorer and assist provider, registering more than 80 goals and over 50 assists across all competitions. Under his leadership, Inter Miami has secured major titles including the 2023 Leagues Cup, the 2024 Supporters’ Shield and the 2025 MLS Cup, alongside multiple individual accolades.
The new stand will form part of a state-of-the-art stadium with a capacity of 26,700 spectators. According to the club, fans seated in this section will have access to enhanced matchday experiences, designed to elevate the atmosphere around the player’s presence.
The debut of the “Leo Messi Stand” not only reflects Messi’s current influence within the club’s sporting project, but also signals a shift in how teams acknowledge the real-time impact of their biggest stars.
