Netflix unveils the first trailer for ‘Apex’, an intense action thriller starring Charlize Theron and Taron Egerton in an extreme pursuit.
Charlize Theron returns to action with ‘Apex’, Netflix’s new thriller, which has just released its first official trailer and is already shaping up to be one of the most striking releases of 2026. The film pits the Oscar-winning actress against Taron Egerton in a dangerous game of pursuit where there is only one rule: hunt or be hunted.
Directed by Baltasar Kormákur and written by Jeremy Robbins, the story follows Sasha, played by Theron, a woman shaped by grief who ventures alone into the Australian wilderness to confront her physical and emotional limits. However, her journey turns into a nightmare when she crosses paths with Ben, a ruthless killer who chooses her as his next target.
The narrative unfolds across the harsh landscapes of the Australian Outback, where the protagonist must survive a brutal chase through cliffs, rivers and dense forests. Egerton’s character adds an unsettling layer to the story, as he does not perceive himself as a villain. “In my version of the story, Ben is the hero. He doesn’t see himself as a killer, but as a hunter,” the actor explained.
For her part, Charlize Theron described the project as more than just an action film. “It’s a psychological thriller. It’s about survival — not only physically, but emotionally,” she said, highlighting the depth of the character.
One of the film’s most notable aspects is its level of realism. Both actors performed a significant portion of their own stunts, with Theron training alongside professional climber Beth Rodden to prepare for the most demanding sequences.
The film will premiere in New York on 22 April, ahead of its global release on Netflix on 24 April 2026. All signs point to ‘Apex’ becoming one of the most talked-about thrillers of the year.
