King Charles III has reportedly tasked his new private secretary with leading a plan to reconcile Prince William and Prince Harry.

  • Buckingham Palace is said to be trying to prevent the definitive breakdown between the King’s sons before the damage becomes irreversible.

The distance between Prince William and Prince Harry has become one of the greatest internal crises facing the British monarchy in recent years. What initially began as tension following the Sussexes’ departure from royal duties eventually evolved into an almost complete rupture that continues to cast a shadow over Buckingham Palace.

Now, according to reports from the Daily Mail, King Charles III has decided to personally intervene in an attempt to rebuild the relationship between his sons before it becomes too late.

And a plan is reportedly already underway.

The man leading this delicate “reconciliation operation” is said to be Theo Rycroft, the King’s newly appointed private secretary. A career diplomat and increasingly influential figure within the Palace, Rycroft has reportedly become one of Charles III’s most trusted advisers thanks to his discreet profile and ability to manage sensitive situations.

Sources close to Buckingham claim he considers the current situation between the brothers “completely ridiculous” and has allegedly made restoring communication between them his “number one mission”.

The fracture between William and Harry has been growing for years, but tensions exploded following the departure of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle from royal life in 2020. The couple’s interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021 intensified the situation further after Meghan spoke publicly about mental health struggles and allegations surrounding comments made about Archie’s skin colour before his birth.

However, the most devastating blow to the brothers’ relationship reportedly came with the publication of ‘Spare’, Prince Harry’s memoir. The book detailed private arguments, family tensions and even an alleged physical altercation between the brothers that reportedly took place at Nottingham Cottage in 2019.

Since then, the relationship has virtually disappeared.

According to British media reports, William was left deeply hurt by his brother’s public revelations, to the extent that he allegedly avoids discussing Harry even within his closest circles.

Even so, there are still figures inside Buckingham Palace who believe a small possibility of reconciliation remains.

And the crucial moment could arrive this summer.

Harry is expected to return to the UK in July to continue preparations for the Invictus Games Birmingham 2027, one of the most personal and important projects of his life. According to reports, this is precisely where Theo Rycroft intends to make his move.

The alleged strategy would first involve arranging a private meeting between King Charles III and Harry before attempting to persuade William to join the conversation as well. Palace insiders are also said to hope Harry will travel alongside Archie and Lilibet, the King’s grandchildren, with whom he has had very limited contact since the Sussex family relocated to the United States.

It would not be the first discreet attempt at reconciliation. Last year, reports already emerged of quiet meetings between Buckingham representatives and advisers close to Harry aimed at easing tensions behind the scenes.

However, the wounds remain deep. Trust between both sides appears severely damaged, and the resentment accumulated over recent years continues to linger heavily.

Even so, King Charles III reportedly seems determined to try one more time. Because beyond the institution, the public image and the international headlines, the conflict remains painfully personal: a father watching his two sons remain completely divided.
