The Hollywood stars will share the screen for the first time, lending their voices to an animated adventure blending science fiction, comedy and romance.

Timothée Chalamet and Selena Gomez are set to collaborate for the very first time in ‘Not Alone’, the brand-new animated feature from Illumination, the studio behind some of the biggest family blockbusters of recent years, including ‘Despicable Me’, ‘Minions’ and ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’. Scheduled to arrive in cinemas on 16 April 2027, the film is already shaping up to be one of the most highly anticipated animated releases of the coming years.

The project will also mark Timothée Chalamet’s first-ever voice acting role in a feature-length animated film. The actor will voice Joe, an introverted rocket mechanic who lives a quiet and solitary life until he crosses paths with Fran, a brilliant astro-botanist voiced by Selena Gomez, whose groundbreaking research has led to the creation of the world’s first plant-powered rocket.

What begins as a scientific collaboration soon develops into an adventure filled with romance, humour and unexpected twists. As Joe and Fran prepare for the historic launch of the revolutionary spacecraft, their lives are turned upside down by the arrival of three adorable alien fugitives seeking shelter after escaping from an overzealous intergalactic law enforcement officer determined to capture them.

The lovable extraterrestrial trio — Dunk, Welly and Shirm — soon realise that Fran’s pioneering rocket may be their only chance of safely returning to their home planet. From that moment on, the ambitious space mission transforms into a fast-paced journey where friendship, teamwork and self-discovery become just as important as interstellar exploration.

The voice cast also features an impressive lineup of internationally acclaimed performers. Rob Brydon, Diane Morgan and Jamie Demetriou will bring the three alien companions to life, while Brett Goldstein, best known for ‘Ted Lasso’, voices Officer Zandro, the determined but somewhat inept officer pursuing the runaway visitors. The cast is further strengthened by the addition of Allison Janney and Lamorne Morris, creating an ensemble that blends comedy, experience and exceptional acting talent.

Directing duties will be shared by Eric Guillon, Claire Dodgson and Jonathan Del Val, three long-time Illumination collaborators whose creative work has helped shape many of the studio’s most successful productions. Their combined experience promises to maintain the distinctive visual style, humour and heartfelt storytelling that have become synonymous with the Illumination brand.

With its mix of science fiction, heartfelt romance, comedy and colourful animation, ‘Not Alone’ looks set to deliver an entertaining adventure for audiences of all ages while bringing together two of Hollywood’s most recognisable stars in an exciting new creative collaboration.
