Dior has revealed the “Dior Toujours,” a new handbag model intended to become an icon and symbol of the exceptional savoir-faire that characterizes the maison.
Designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri, creative director of the brand’s women’s lines since July 2016, this handbag joins the collection of timeless pieces that Dior has safeguarded in its archives, including equally unique and admirable designs like the iconic “Lady Dior.”
The new handbag model from the French house Dior has been expertly crafted by skilled artisans in their workshops. It was first presented during the ready-to-wear collection runway show for Dior’s Spring/Summer 2023 season, in a spectacular event held in September 2022, during the latest edition of Paris Fashion Week. During this runway show, Dior paid homage to Catherine de’ Medici, considered a symbol of an “empowered woman” who inspires designer Maria Grazia Chiuri in her work.
The “Toujours” model stands out for its sophistication and versatility, as it is available in three different sizes (small, medium, and large) and three distinct designs: black, latte, and toasted white. Inspired by the historic “macrocannage” motif of the house, the handbag is adorned with charming gold details in the form of the letters “D,” “I,” “O,” and “R,” which spell out the name of the maison. These metallic elements fit perfectly with the “CD” letters, the initials of Christian Dior, allowing the shape of the handbag to be modified, making it an exceptional and adaptable piece to be carried both by hand and on the shoulder.
Dior describes the “Toujours” handbag as a “celebration of the poetry of gestures,” merging the heritage of the fashion house’s founder with the maison’s ongoing creative passion. The handbag has been conceived under the highest artisanal standards, with infinite meticulousness in each stage of its production, from the cutting of the leather to the application of the “macrocannage” motif. Additionally, the ingenious signature “CD” detail allows one to play with the shape of the model and modify it as desired.
